Sender of text message liable for car accident of a driver?

While drinking and driving continues to be a main concern among motorists, the finger is now being pointed at those who text and drive. Texting is something that is most popular among the younger generation, although there are plenty of adults who text as well. Unfortunately, some New Jersey residents text while they are behind the wheel. This can result in a serious car crash. Recently, texting was a problem in one car accident, which seriously injured two Dover residents last fall.

The couple was hurt when a car driven by a 19-year-old man struck their motorcycle in Morris County. The injuries were so severe that one of the victims had to have her leg completely amputated. The other victim had one of his legs ripped off just above the knee in the frightening incident.

Cyclist struck by driver; victim dies of injuries in Newark

New Jersey police are investigating a fatal incident in Newark that took place on April 25. On that Wednesday afternoon, a 65-year-old man was riding his bicycle in an industrial area and was struck by a vehicle on Wilson Avenue between Avenue L and Avenue P. The crash occurred at about 4 p.m. The bike rider was taken to a local hospital, but he passed away about an hour following the crash as a result of the injuries.

In many cases, the motorist -- not the bicyclist -- is at fault. However, with this case, this decision is yet to be made. The investigation is ongoing and there hasn't been a lot of information released to the public regarding the specific circumstances surrounding the crash. At this time, no charges have been made.

Death and personal injury result after school bus runs stop sign

The worst nightmare of every parent of school age children in New Jersey may be that the child gets critically injured while in the care of others. This is particularly true of parents that send their kids on a school bus to and from classes. Entrusting the lives of their kids to the school district and the bus operator, parents rely on the fact that the bus operator will observe the rules of the road and exercise a reasonable duty of care to others in and near the roadway. They hope that the driver will guard children against personal injury. For one Burlington County family, the nightmare tragically came true when their 11-year-old triplets were all involved in a motor vehicle accident in Chesterfield.

The fatal crash occurred when the school bus operator was said to have run a stop sign at an intersection. A truck who had a yellow blinking traffic light proceeded into the intersection but did not stop in time to avoid a collision with the side of the bus. The impact of the collision forced the bus, which was transporting 25 students, to strike a metal pole. As a result, one triplet was killed and her sisters suffered critical injuries, as did another boy on the bus. Since the fatal collision, the two surviving triplets have been released from Cooper University Hospital in Camden; however, no further word on their condition was available.

Motorcycle accident: SUV and motorcycle collide in Toms River

Motorcycle accidents happen in the blink of an eye and are often caused by a negligent driver that is not paying close enough attention to the road. They could be texting and driving, looking at something off the road or even applying make-up. The reasons (or excuses) are endless, but the consequences of negligent driving can sometimes result in injury or even death. This was the case with one recent New Jersey motorcycle accident.

Around noon on Wednesday, April 18, a Nissan SUV and a motorcycle were involved in a car accident in which the motorcyclist sustained injuries. A 54-year-old Toms River man was driving a 1987 Honda motorcycle eastbound on Bay Avenue when a different vehicle in front of him tried to make a right turn onto Briar Avenue. At this time, the SUV motorist, also 54 and from Toms River, collided with the motorcycle as he attempted to make a left turn from Briar onto Bay Avenue.

Tugboat capsizes: workers' compensation available?

When an employee is injured on the premises of their workplace and the injury arises out of the course of employment, they may be eligible to receive workers' compensation benefits. Furthermore, depending upon the nature of the employment, the premises of a workplace can vary wildly. They may range from an air-conditioned office to a tugboat in a harbor.

As some New Jersey readers may have heard, a tugboat recently capsized near Liberty Island on April 6. There were three crew members aboard the boat at the time; fortunately, it appears that only one was injured. At the moment, the US Coast Guard is investigating the accident. It appears that the tugboat was attempting to lift something using a crane, although, why this action caused it to capsize is not available.

New Jersey car accident: 1 dead, 11 students injured

A deadly accident in New Jersey left the driver of a pickup truck dead after a school bus collided with his vehicle. The car accident happened in the area of Toms River, and several children were also injured in the incident. At the time of a local news report, the accident was still under investigation.

The news report stated that the accident happened on April 5 at about 2:30 p.m. The pickup truck was heading northbound when it attempted to make a left-hand turn onto another road. Car accident in New Jersey sends 3 to the hospital

It can sometimes be difficult to explain to authorities exactly what happened in a car wreck. Specifically, this may result in conflicting stories not only between the drivers, but the witnesses as well. For this reason, when someone is in a car accident, it is important to record details of the event as soon as possible.

That may have been a good idea for the individuals involved in a recent New Jersey car accident, which sent three people to local hospitals. The accident involved three cars. It appears that one car hit another, and it was subsequently hit by a third car from behind.

Company fined for New Jersey construction accident

Construction workers are often called upon to perform work that is potentially dangerous and life threatening under certain conditions. In order to reduce this danger, companies must abide by certain safety regulations when it comes to a construction project. Moreover, should a construction accident nonetheless occur, those injured may be able to collect workers' compensation.

Tragically, one recent incident in New Jersey resulted in the death of a worker and injuries to two others. The incident happened when three construction employees were working atop one of the tallest buildings in the state. At the time, a local storm warning had been issued, and when lightning struck the construction project, one of the three workers was killed.

Can a new scientific equation detect distracted driving?

Did you know that in 2009, 5,474 people were killed across the United States in crashes involving distracted driving? Also, 448,000 were estimated to be injured in car accidents.

New Jersey residents are aware that distracted driving is a problem in the United States. In recent news, a physicist from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is working to scientifically address the problem. Because he has children of his own that are addicted to their electronic devices, for the sake of their safety, he decided to take an analytical approach.
